What Does a Construction Recruitment Agency Do?

A construction recruitment agency sources, screens, and supplies staff across the full construction workforce: skilled trades, plant operators, site supervision, technical and commercial roles, and project leadership.

Construction hiring has a characteristic that separates it from most sectors: the requirement moves with the programme.

A site that needs twelve groundworkers this month may need six carpenters next month and none of either by Christmas. A project reaching handover needs commissioning engineers it did not need six months ago. Recruitment that cannot keep pace with the programme is not useful, however good the candidates are.

Alliance supplies construction staff across three distinct requirement types: permanent staff for core teams, contract and freelance staff for programme-driven demand, and volume mobilisation when a project win needs a full site team at short notice.

Every candidate is checked for trade qualifications and cards, right-to-work status, relevant site experience, and safety record before submission.

For senior leadership and director-level appointments, see our construction executive search practice.

How Quickly Can You Supply Construction Staff?

You receive a screened shortlist within 24–48 hours of an agreed brief, for trades, site management and technical roles. Senior and director-level searches take 10–21 days.

What Does Construction Recruitment Cost?

Permanent fees depend on the role, seniority and hiring model, and are agreed in writing before the search starts; on contingency searches, you pay only when we place a candidate. Contract staff are charged at a rate per worker, agreed in writing before the assignment starts. Contact Alliance for a rate indication specific to your requirement and location.

Contract and Freelance Construction Staff:

Programme demand does not follow headcount planning. Where a phase requires twenty additional trades for eight weeks, or a technical specialist for a specific work package, contract supply is the practical answer. Alliance sends a screened shortlist within 24–48 hours of an agreed brief, with cards, right-to-work documents and safety records checked. Assignment length and terms are agreed in writing.

Volume Mobilisation:

Winning a project creates an immediate resourcing problem. Alliance handles full site mobilisation, including trades, operatives, plant operators and supervision, with headcount and start dates agreed in the brief and compliance and payroll managed throughout the assignment.

For general operative and labour supply specifically, see our construction worker recruitment service.

How We Screen Construction Candidates

Cards and Qualifications Verified:

CSCS, CPCS, NPORS, SMSTS, SSSTS, ECS and equivalent international certifications are verified before submission, including card level and expiry. In markets outside the UK we verify the equivalent national scheme. A candidate arriving on site without a valid card is a wasted day for everyone.

Right to Work Confirmed:

Documentation is checked and recorded before any candidate is put forward. For international placements, visa status and sponsorship requirements are established at screening rather than at offer.

Site Experience Matched to Your Environment:

A groundworker from housing does not automatically transfer to a live rail environment. A site manager from fit-out will find heavy civils unfamiliar. We match candidates to your project type, sector and site conditions rather than treating construction experience as interchangeable.

Safety Record Established:

We ask about incidents, near misses and any site removals. For supervisory and management roles carrying safety accountability, we check this thoroughly. In a sector where safety failures carry personal and corporate liability, this is a standard part of screening.

Reliability Verified With Previous Sites:

The most common failure in construction supply is not capability; it is attendance. We reference candidates with previous site contacts specifically on turning up, timekeeping, and working through the full contract rather than leaving mid-phase.

Sectors We Supply

Residential and Housing:

Housebuilders, build-to-rent developers and social housing providers. Trades, site management, technical and commercial staff across new build and refurbishment.

Commercial and Fit-Out:

Offices, retail, hospitality and interior fit-out. Fast-programme delivery with trades, supervision and MEP coordination.

Civil Engineering and Infrastructure:

Highways, rail, water, energy and marine. Groundworkers, plant operators, site engineers and supervision with the certifications specific to each environment.

Industrial and Logistics:

Warehousing, distribution centres, manufacturing facilities and data centres. Large-footprint fast-track delivery with significant MEP content.

Healthcare and Education:

Hospitals, schools and public buildings, including live-environment working and the additional clearance requirements that come with it.

Energy and Utilities:

Power generation, transmission, renewables and water treatment. Specialist trades and technical staff with regulated-environment experience.

Specialist Subcontractors:

MEP, façade, roofing, groundworks, steel fabrication and erection and specialist finishing contractors requiring trade-specific supply at scale.
